Enzyme Engineering for Biomedical and Environmental Application
Doctoral Thesis
The Doctoral Thesis focuses on the rational engineering of enzymes for biomedical and environmental applications. Computational design, structural biology, molecular dynamics simulations, and experimental characterisation were integrated to develop improved variants of fructosyl peptide oxidases (FPOXs) and polyethylene terephthalate hydrolases (PETases). Engineered FPOX variants exhibited enhanced thermal stability and broadened substrate accessibility for diabetes diagnostics, while optimised PETases demonstrated improved plastic-degradation efficiency and stability, contributing to sustainable enzymatic recycling technologies.
