The Thesis investigates the application of the FLASH effect in light-ion therapy and the development of advanced range verification for helium-4 ion therapy. The first part of the Thesis addresses ultra-high dose rate radiochemistry and effects in the context of light ion beams, as well as ultra-high dose rate delivery technological challenges. The second part develops novel approaches for helium ion range verification using particle radiography, mixed particle beams, positron emission tomography and prompt gamma detection. The results contribute to the theoretical foundation for more precise and biologically effective cancer treatment via implementation of modern technologies.
