The first and for a long time the only Architecture School in Latvia was founded in 1869 at Riga Polytechnicum – the first technical higher educational institution in the Baltic States. Over time, the Architecture School has changed its names, affiliation, and locations; however, it has managed to successfully maintain its traditions until present. Now, it exists as the Faculty of Architecture of Riga Technical University.

The Architecture School is not only a place to obtain professional qualification; it also provides the basis for the general development of architecture. High quality training is impossible without theoretical and scientific basis, which ensures adequate practical implementation of architecture in the built environment. In this perspective, the review of the history of architectural education in Latvia is presented considering each historical period successively.
