Phosphorus limitation reduces bacterial growth and biofilm formation, which can aid in controlling the growth of potentially pathogenic microorganisms. However, information on the effects of phosphorus reduction within internal drinking water systems, where water quality deterioration frequently occurs, remains limited. This study investigates the limitation of microbially available phosphorus in internal drinking water supply, using a granular ferric hydroxide sorption filter, and evaluates its impact on such opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens as Legionella bacteria.
