The Doctoral Thesis explores the correlation between simple voltage hysteresis measurements and the state of health (SoH) of a Li-ion battery (LIB), providing a basis for a possible method to easily determine the SoH of used batteries. Additionally, a method has been developed to prevent the ageing of LIBs through surface coating. The importance of a proper reference for the correct evaluation of coating effects is also highlighted. A meta-analysis performed within the research summarises improvements in capacity retention from coating or doping the cathode material, indirectly revealing the main degradation mechanisms affecting LiNixCoyMn1-x-yO2 cathode materials of various compositions.
