Polymer composite laminates consist of layers with fibers aligned either along the loading direction, or along the off-axis directions. Under loading, micro-damage initiates in the off-axis layers in the form of fiber/matrix-debonds, and the damage evolution takes place as transverse cracks and delaminations. In the Doctoral Thesis, the evolution of micro-damage is studied in laminates with high transverse crack density, as well as composite laminates with hybrid textile meso-structure and laminates manufactured using the induction heating process.
