Antonina Masilūne (1921–2019) was a cook and author of several books, and a populariser of Latvian cuisine. The stage of her artistic works was the kitchen, her special works, which are now known throughout Latvia, and her cookbook. For her merits in preserving culinary heritage, she was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, fourth class, in 2017. She gave lectures on Latvian table culture and family holidays, etiquette, table setting and decorations not only in Latvia but also in America. In the 80s and 90s of the last century, when cookbooks were popular in families, especially the older generation deservedly loved the recipe books of the Latgale-born culinary artist A. Masaļūne. Journalist Guntis Bojārs in his program said: “If Latvia has its own Father of Songs, A. Masiļūne could be called the mother of Latvian recipes – more than 25 cookbooks in Latvian, Russian, Latgalian, also German and English. The harvest of recipes compiled by A. Masiļūne is enormous” (Bojārs, 2017). This is a great contribution to the field of the intangible cultural heritage of the Latvian people, because A. Masiļūne not only made known Latvian national dishes, but also reminded to use products grown in Latvia.
