Recycling of Wood-Cement Manufacturing Waste into Innovative Building Materials
Doctoral Thesis
This doctoral thesis focuses on recycling wood-wool cement panel (WWCP) manufacturing waste into sustainable building materials. The research develops and optimises mechanical (milling) and thermal (heating) methods to reactivate the hydrated cement binder from waste streams like sanding dust. This reactivated binder, along with production line waste and hemp shives, is used to create innovative biocomposites. The study demonstrates that these new materials have comparable thermal insulation and mechanical properties to conventional products but with a significantly lower environmental footprint, aligning with the EU Green Deal and circular economy principles.
