The Doctoral Thesis aims to explore possible solutions for the decarbonisation of light and heavy transport (including ships and aviation) based on electricity produced from renewable energy sources (including its use in the production of synthetic fuels), assessing their technical and economic potential. The results of the Doctoral Thesis lead to the conclusion that by 2050 it is possible to decarbonize the heavy transport sector by using surplus renewable electricity to produce and store synthetic fuels. On the other hand, in the light transport sector, according to the conclusions of the work, the most promising is the move towards electric transport.
