This monograph includes an in-depth study of the Malenian subdialects, corrects and expands on earlier information about the subdialects of Jaunlaicene and Veclaicene, and provides observations on mutual influence in language and subdialects in circumstances influenced by the geolinguistic (the Latvian- Estonian border region) and sociolinguistic (education, work, mass media, cultural and other events, communication with neighbours, relatives, etc.) environment. The central task of this monograph is to explore the specific features of Malenian – a High Latvian deep Latgalic subdialect variety.
