The study analyses the genesis and transformation of Jūrmala’s built environment and architecture from the early 19th century to the present day. It focuses on the city as the largest resort in Latvia. The work analyses the terminology of the resort and the documentation of the spatial development planning of Jūrmala and identifies the built-up areas that have been used as resorts in one of the periods. The typological diversity and development of resort facilities, as well as their functional and technical transformation over time, are identified. The distribution of particular styles or stylistic trends in the built environment is examined. The main regularities of the development of Jūrmala resort architecture are formulated. The study introduces new factual and graphological material into the scientific literature.
